On Monday, February 10, 2014, a kickoff symposium for “The Last 5X Innovation R&D Center for a Smart, Happy, and Resilient Society” was held at the Centennial Hall, Kyoto University Clock Tower (organized by Research Promotion Institution for COI Site,Kyoto University). At the symposium, the role and overview of “The Last 5X Innovation R&D Center for a Smart, Happy, and Resilient Society” , which was selected as one of the COI STREAM centers by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Japan Science and Technology Agency, were introduced.
More than 200 people from within and outside of the University participated in the symposium, and over 100 people attended a get-together held after the symposium. All participants enjoyed active exchanges.
The symposium began with the opening messages by Hiroshi Matsumoto, President of Kyoto University and Masao Furuyama, President of Kyoto Institute of Technology, which were followed by congratulatory messages from Sadayuki Tsuchiya, Deputy Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and Jo Matsuda, Adviser of Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. Then the overview of the COI Program was introduced and each of the four project leaders explained the content of their own projects.
